Professor at École Polytechnique de Montréal
Gilles Savard has been a professor at École Polytechnique de Montréal since 1993. He headed the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering from 2001 to 2007 and then headed the Department of Research, Innovation and International Affairs until 2017. He was then appointed Director General of the Institut de valorisation des données (IVADO), an initiative of HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal and the Université de Montréal. IVADO, which brings together more than 70 partners from industry, institutions and government, is an advanced research and transfer institute in data sciences, operational research and artificial intelligence involving more than 1,000 scientists. To date, it has published more than 100 scientific articles in the main journals in the field of operational research and has directed nearly 80 students and highly qualified personnel. He is a recognized specialist in two-tier mathematical programming and has conducted research projects for twenty years with the Department of Defense using the tools developed for peace mission planning in an operational manner. He has collaboratively developed an innovative methodological approach in the area of revenue management where ExPretio, a university spin-off company, markets revenue management tools for airlines and railways. Gilles Savard was a key player in the EUGENE project, which won the award for the best operational research application in Canada in 1999 from CORS, and in the creation of ExPretio, which was honored in 2010 for the quality of its partnerships by ADRIQ, the French Agency for Research and Innovation. He is a member of several boards of directors.
