Karel Mayrand

Director of David Suzuki Foundation Québec

Karel Mayrand is Director of David Suzuki Foundation Québec and President of The Climate Reality Project Canada, an organization founded by Al Gore. He is also the author of the book A Voice for the Earth published by Boreal editions in 2012. Karel Mayrand has been working for fifteen years in the field of sustainable development. He has advised several governments and UN agencies and was advised by Pierre Marc Johnson, former Premier of Quebec, on issues of sustainable development and globalization for more than a decade. He was co-founder of the Unisféra International Center in 2002 where he created the Planétair greenhouse gas compensation program in 2005. Karel is the author of the Manifesto for a Sustainable Quebec (2007) and co-author of Governing Global Desertification (2006) at Ashgate Aldershot (London). He is a 2005 Action Canada Scholar and was a finalist in the 2008 Arista competition as the socially responsible entrepreneur of the year in Quebec. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Montreal Regional Environmental Council, the Quebec Center for Environmental Law and the Cowboys Fringants Foundation.
