Public Affairs Officer, Canadian Armed Force
Jean-François Chapdelaine is 30 years old and comes from Sorel-Tracy in Montérégie.
After studying police techniques at Cégep de Trois-Rivières, he pursued a university degree in history and social communication at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. His time at university was marked by great involvement, notably as a student representative on the UQTR Studies Commission and as secretary-general of the UQTR student association. He also participated in various academic events, including the Franco-Canadian Games of Communication, where he distinguished himself with several medals in public speaking and public relations.
In March 2015, Jean-François joined the ranks of the Royal Canadian Navy as a reservist as a naval war officer. He will then split his time between UQTR and Pacific Naval School in Esquimalt, British Columbia, where he will earn his commission in the summer of 2017. He took a break during the year 2016 to work as political attaché of the MP for Trois-Rivières, Mr. Robert Aubin. Following his political career, Jean-François returned to the service of the Royal Canadian Navy but this time full time. After completing his officer training and having served on the HMCS Yellowknife, Jean-François was transferred to Naval Reserve Headquarters in Quebec City where he currently holds the position of Officer in Charge of Outreach and Public Affairs for Quebec.
Jean-Francois is very interested in public governance issues, including how international issues influence our national decisions. The issue of the environment is one of its issues that can not be tackled in a vacuum, but in an international perspective.
